Using Lawson to Create Patient Charges - Interface to Billing

We have used Pyxis units to create patient charges but a question was posed to us about whether we can use Lawson to create Patient charges directly. We realize this would necessitate an ADT interface from our EMR. Is anyone else doing this already? Thanks!!

Hey Preston,

We currently utilize the PC10 screen to store charge codes and patient price. We then are able to interface that information into Epic by dumping the IC524 (IC527 also available) file to Infor's Clinical Bridge interface engine. From there it's translated to HL7 and then sent to Epic.

We used to do charges in Lawson, it's very cumbersome. You use PC20 to enter the charge and PC530 to create a file outbound.. we chose the HL7 format.. it's a flat HL7 file. Then we sent it to our interface engine that put it in the correct HL7 format to send to our McKesson Star system.

Thanks John and Lisa! Do either of you use the handheld terminal (HHT) to create the Patient Charges? In the Form Help for PC530, it seems to indicate that PC540 and IC588 can be used to capture charges with a handheld. What I envision is a handheld process that initiates 2 things: 1. Patient Charge File being appended to by scanning a shelf 2. Requisition (RQ500)back to Lawson. I could then replenish as stock or nonstock thru EDI order from the vendor and the patient charge file would be batch processed into billing.

Hey! We charge straight from Epic. So, we only supply the product information, charge codes and cost. Then the charges themselves are calculated and posted on the Epic side.

We had considered charging straight from Lawson for a brief moment, but it was quickly decided on that it would be better for our facility to charge out of Epic.

We currently use OptiFlex on the nursing floors to capture patient supply charges and manage inventory. We would like to move away from that and interface directly between Lawson and Epic. Do you have some ideas on how that can be accomplished without greatly impacting the workload on nurses on the floor?

If Pyxis is creating the patient charge - how is Lawson creating the charge felt to be quicker? Stick with the pyxis.
