New office - how do your remote users connect to Visual?

We have just added an additional office in a nearby city to our company. About half of our office staff has moved to that location, including our entire sales team.

Here is my question to all of you - how do you connect other locations to your database? Do you use Remote Desktop? Has anyone found a way to run client/server without having to go through Remote Desktop? The users at that location are not happy about using RDS.

Any suggestions?

I was very reluctant initially, but decided to use virtual workstations on the server to connect remotely through an RDS session. I set them up through HyperV with a static IP, and I opened the port for remote access. This works well for us. I tried RDS (to the server) and VPN in the past, and neither seemed very reliable for us. The negative is that you need virtualization software on the server, and also need Windows licenses for each instance of Windows. Significantly more up-front expenses than just using RDS. But easier to customize the end-user experience with the virtual workstation.

i use citrix connection for remote access to visual application. i has not failed me yet.

Visual Runs great over Microsoft RDS RemoteApp. We decided to put all 200 Visual users on RemoteApp for consistancy and now everyone runs over RDS and we no longer install Visual on the desktop. We are on Visual 9.0.1, but have been doing this since v7.1.2

We also utilize Microsoft RemoteApps in an RDS Farm of 3 servers for our 50+ Visual users. It saves HOURS during upgrades plus significantly reduces the numbers of customizations/installation you need to support. We are on Visual 9.0.7 and have used RemoteApps since Visual 7.1.2. Currently utilizing RemoteApps to provide access to Visual Mfg, Visual for .NET (Global Financials, Time & Attendance), KIOSK, and Visual Quality.

Furthermore, our offsite users connect to our VPN and then run the RemoteApps the same way they would if they were in the office.
