Opera 3 started to be very slow last couple of week

Hi all,

A site where the rest of the IT managed by someone else has suddenly become very slow. everything from loading Opera to printing. things which used to take seconds now take minutes. ie. Delivery with 6 lines taking 10 minutes.

any help/tips greatly appreciated. please find below what I managed to extract regarding their setup.

50 user Opera 3v2.31.11, with some bespoke from Corrin and MJM.

Two physical servers, one a domain controller running Hyper-V and the other terminal services. The server running Pegasus is a virtual server with 4 virtual processors and 16 GB ram.

Physicals are both HP Proliant DL370 G6 servers and all are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Std.

NICs are HP NC375i hardware (Multifunction Gigabit), teamed to provide 2 Gbps. Disks are using smart array P410i controllers.

RDS server has a single RAID 5 array and DC has two logical disks in RAID 1 (OS) and RAID 5 (data). (about 25 of the Opera users)

AV is Webroot SecureAnywhere

Hi Colin, we currently have a similar situation with one of our sites. They "claim" it was since the last Opera 3 upgrade, which weve obviously tried to dismiss, but your post has intrigued me.

Does it perform in the same way, directly on the server? Theres is fine on the server, but totally sluggish on the workstations. We have asked them to check & double check AV, but like your situation its managed by external IT people who have reasurred us everything is excluded.

If you perform a backup on the server it takes a minute, on the workstation 30 mins.

Again weve been assured that theres no scanning being performed & the network is set to 1gb etc. Nothing is really jumping out so far

Hi James

Loading Opera client on Pegasus Server appears to perform correctly.

when on Terminal Server and trying to copy a folder of small files (Several copies of the Reports folder)

From Server to TS 4:10

from Server to Server 1:05

From TS to TS local drive only 1:10

Same copy run on Server C: to C: 0:12.

I also have another site with a couple of Win10 Clients start to run slow. ESET AV this time & HyperV 2012. there IT company sorted once before, but has no record of what they did?????

You haven't knocked SMB back to SMB1 by any chance?

Apparently WebRoot sandboxes applications it doesn't know about which according to the thread below can cause significant performance issues as per the link below. Is Opera whitelisted on the site?

VFPEXMAPI.FLL, Opera as standard doesn't use it though so it won't be there unless they have a bespoke that does.

OK good people,

Just thought I would update this.

It looks like we have bottomed it out.

One of the hard disks in the RDS server was having a high error rate, but had not failed or degraded the array. It was however killing the performance.
