Work order legs - scrap as inventory items to record scrap costs and create demand

We use work order legs to build sub assemblies for a main assembly, question:  if a sub-assembly has to be scrapped and re-made, how do you record the scrap costs and create new demand to build the replacements?  We can do this easily when we have different work orders for the top level assembly and the sub-assemblies, but I can't figure out how to do this using legs for the sub-assemblies.
