What is the shipping weight in Part Maintenance?

In Part Maintenance, what is the Shipping Weight supposed to be?

1. A single bare part with no packaging?

2. The full weight of what ever the Case Qty is?

3. The full Case Qty weight divided by the Case Qty?

4. The weight of a full Pallet Qty?

5. Or something else?

HI,

Generally speaking the shipping weight is the weight of the Part's Stocking Unit of Measure. In our situation we tend to stock by EA but sell by case or pack so we have set the weight to be that of a full case, including packaging, divided by the number of the stocking unit of measure contained in the case.

So to be clear, that is Option 3 in my question. Example: I would take the weight of our 40 pc shipping package (18.35 lbs) and divide 18.35 by 40 = 0.45875 for the shipping weight.

As long as the 40 units are reflective of the Stocking Unit of Measure for the part.

Note... You don't have to include the weight of the packaging if you don't want to. However, we found that including that material generated a more accurate weight. Our Sales department uses the weight value generated at the bottom of Order management to get approximate freight quotes. That weight value, regardless of how you sell your product (case/pack etc.) is calculated using the stocking unit X shipping weight.
