SQL Command for find and replace

Hello,

We have a significant number of parts with characters in the description that I would like to replace with text. Primarily, I'd like to replace a quote (") with a space and letters ( IN) to significant inches. With thousands of parts needing this, I'm certain there is a way to use a SQL command on the primary database to make the mass change.

Can someone provide instructions as to how to do this? The field is description in part maintenance.

Always test on a sandbox first!

In SQL Server:

UPDATE [VETEST].[dbo].[PART_BINARY] set [BITS] = convert(image,convert(varbinary(max),replace(convert(VARCHAR(max),convert(varbinary(max),[BITS])),'INCHES','IN')))

This should give a starting point.

Sorry, it's early here. The statement above will find and replace in the Specifications. Use this:

UPDATE [VETEST].[dbo].[PART] set [DESCRIPTION] = REPLACE([DESCRIPTION],'INCHES','IN')

I use Microsoft Access for a lot of table maintenance. Using ODBC, you can change the description in the Part table using a FIND and REPLACE. You're looking for " to IN, this is easy.
