IPA vs. Add-Ins

Hi,

We have a rather large upload we do monthly from a national office supply chain.

Currently it comes in via a spreadsheet and we use add-ins to import the invoice.

We are a hosted in the cloud.....and we even have a separate add-ins server dedicated just

for use for things like this, so it doesn't hog up cpu resources on our primary system (like it used to)

The spreadsheet can be upwards of 4000+ distrib lines on a monthly basis because it encompasses all our locations/facilities.

But recently as we have been adding new locations/facilities so has the upload been expanding...and it's been taking 2 hours or so to do the add-ins upload recently.

Wondering if anyone has tried to replicate what add-ins does via an IPA....and if performance is same/better/worse?

If it's a repeatable task, IPA is the way to go. Especially if that means the processing can happen off hours.

We have a couple processes that grab information from a vendor and run record adds or Interface jobs from CSV files.

If you receive your files via FTP or SFTP, you can set up a File Channel that will auto move the file for you and trigger a flow that can then process the data.

Yes we do this quite often and are trying to get more of the user uploads moved over to IPA rather than using Add-ins, especially if they involve multiple uploads. If you can have the upload changed from being a spreadsheet to a csv file then IPA can read the file directly and load it just like add-ins. Larger files like you mention are usually scheduled to run during the night and run much quicker with no users.

Hi Jim,

I haven't really tried a direct comparison, but really the performance difference should be negligible because both IPA and AddIns use the same AGS calls to do the updates. The only difference is the front end. JD is right - having IPA do it off hours without requiring intervention is the best way to go.

If you are importing invoices, you'd probably have better luck importing them via the AP520 vs doing an Addin or IPA.

My advise would depend on what version of Landmark Environment you are on. If you have all the performance enhancements for IPA it should easily handle this kind of volume for you especially if run off hours.

10.1.1.58+, js.compile=-1, log level, s3 pooled connections, etc

With all those performance enhancements available for IPA I would suspect IPA would the same speed as Add-ins. Because at the end of the day both those systems are likely making ags calls. Although with S3 pooling .... if addins has to authenticate multiple times IPA could turn out faster.
