Work Around to Avoid Downtime during upgrade from 8.0.0 to 9.0.1

Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone knows of and that might be able to give me some sort of guidance on a work around to avoid so much downtime during an upgrade from 8.0.0 to 9.0.1. 

I have 9.0.1 on a staging/test Environment. 

When doing the upgrade I was told we have to remove 8.0.0 on client computers then re-install 9.0.1. (This is where most of the downtime will be)

since I have about 200 clients, I'm wondering if its possible to install 9.0.1 on client systems without removing 8.0.0 and just pointing 9.0.1 to our staging environment. Then once we upgrade (Remove 8.0.0 and install 9.0.1) on our LIVE App server, we can just go back remove 8.0.0 and make the changes on the 9.0.1 .INI file to point back to our LIVE environment. Thanks in Advance for any feedback.

You always have to uninstall the old runtimes and Visual installs when you upgrade.

I use Advanced Installer to package my upgrade and part of that tool is an option where you can pick apps installed on your PC to uninstall automatically when you upgrade. Very sweet!

The thing that stopped me from using Advanced Installer for years was the cost of buying it. It's about $3999 for advanced installer Architect (all the bells and whistles), but I finally got it since I have 400+ machines.
