Manufacturer and Vendor codes

We're in the process of building our item file for a new install, and our implementation consultant suggested I reach out to the community for this one...

We've engaged GHX to help cleanse our item file through their NuVia product, so we have just under 800 manufacturers and divisions to load.  The names are easy enough, but it was suggested that we define the code smartly - we originally thought we'd just use a sequential number, but apparently there's value in having the code relate to the manufacturer's name.  Sure, "3M' is easy, as is "ZOLL", but we have 7 that all begin with "MICRO...", or 6 that all begin with "AMERICAN...", so shrinking those to a meaningful 4-character name (with another 4-characters for division), can be a lot of work.

So, just wondering if anyone has a meaningful list of Manufacturer Names and Codes they'd be willing to share?

[View:/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/54/Manuf_2D00_2018.xlsx:320:240]We try to add a 2-4 digit mnemonics that makes sense to the users that are hopefully easy to remember so as not to have to look up.  We now have over 1400 in our system and only the common ones are easily remembered.  I've attached our list.
