Assigning New Part Numbers for E-Commerce

Hello,

I'm looking for best practice for assigning new part numbers to current stock for E-commerce. Our team is looking to put the old parts through a work order to issue to a new part number for the platform. I'm hoping there is a better way of doing this. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Have you thought about just doing an adjust out and adjust in in inventory trans. Just put a comment in explaining why in the comments.

Yes, we did. Accounting would prefer costs to flow through to the new part which is why we chose the work order route. I should also mention we use traceability so we have strict rules for what can and can't be adjusted out.

Using Physical Inventory Cycle Counting, cost flow from one account to another. To speed things up you could barcode each part number on a sheet and scan the part number to aide in data entry.

Curious why you need a new part number? Why not use the existing part number?

I agree with @zach , I would also ask why you need different Part ID's for the same part?

Visual has a lot of functionality to split up the same part into different groups. Market Pricing is probably the best method (E-Commerce vs. Standard Model), as you can then segregate the sales based on Market on the reporting side.

If you're using the Work Orders to transform from a dimensional Inventory Item into a discreet sales item (lbs/sqft/sqm/ect. into EACH) then using work orders is the only method that I am aware of.

Two main reasons: 1. We don't want the E-commerce sales affect costing of our current parts. 2. Most of these parts are material our customers no longer use but we would rather not publish our part numbers since we are a custom manufacture.
