Templates for quoting process
Legacy Contributor
Has anyone tried to create templates in Visual that were used to ensure that estimators would use the proper steps and materials for a particular process?
We have a printing process that is VERY consistent in terms of process; however, it is very difficult to train new people in this process. In order to eliminate (reduce) errors in quoting this process we would like to create a 'dummy' template that could be pulled into new quotes.
Any tips greatly appreciated.

Do you mean in the Estimating window? If so we'd been toying around with it lately and I could see where it can work pretty slick, but the templates get a little large in our environment and we realized we'd need an awful lot of them so we haven't done much with it recently.

Yes, in the estimating window.
In our environment, we have chosen 3 key processes where we have an accuracy issue and creating templates for those processes (the key one being for our printing process).
It can get quite out of control, but, we are using as a way to "control processes" as required.
In addition, the processes being templated are relatively simple (compared to other industries).

What we were doing was making up 'dummy' templates if you will for all possible parts on certain product line orders - all the salesman would have to do is chose qty's and markup's. The idea was eliminate missing part's and typing in incorrect part numbers. Like I said, it looks like it could work pretty well in a simpler estimating environment.

Ours is more at the quoting stage and ensuring that all the steps are included in some of the more complex processes and appropriate time is allocated (especially to setup times). I have set it up, now we just need to test it.
