Supreme court decision on internet sales tax

In light of the Supreme Courts decision today, I have a customer that does sales over the internet. Besides Avalara, does anyone have another taxing software integrated with Facts? Looking for a cost effective solution.

Personally, I am not sure going with the lowest cost solution is the best option when dealing with government entities. Especially in light of recent changes and the associated knowledge requirements that go with them. It does not hurt to have experts looking out for your interests.

If you look closely, I believe you will find the combination of features Avalara's Avatax services provide and the completeness of the integration to FACTS that Sequoia Group wrote and maintains do provide a very strong value proposition.

I do know that Avatax is a very good solution as we have several customers using your integration into Facts. I am not necessarily looking for a basement bargain deal, merely a comparative solution which has to be able to do the real time taxing plus the returns also. If the annual fee from Avalara is still as high as I remember, I would like to present a fair comparison to something with less of an annual price tag. Now if the annual price is not what it used to be, I would like to know that so I may present that along with your significant interface into Facts which would make it the better goto solution.

Avalara's pricing is based on transaction volume and the subscribed features. While Sequoia Group's integration does what we can to limit the number of transactions any given sale incurs in an effort to prevent transaction inflation, we do not have any control over Avalara's pricing.

If you have a client who is facing sales tax challenges, it is worth running their numbers through an Avalara pricer to see how they turn out before you decide out of hand the fees are too high. I have certainly seen the numbers vary across the board. Also, bear in mind lower cost services or do it yourself solutions carry with them associated risk, maintenance and compliance costs.

As far as other non-Avalara options, I am aware of other services that compete with Avalara. However, I have not heard any other solution partner has gone through the massive effort needed to build a solid and complete integration to them. If you do find another service you would like to investigate integrating to, we would certainly entertain leveraging the knowledge Sequoia Group has amassed as we evolved our Avalara solution to help you out.
