Visual Upgrade 9.0.4 Deployment

Hello All -

We will be upgrading from 8.0 to 9.0.4. Traditionally, we have gone to each work station and uninstalled and reinstalled Gupta and Visual to update the individual users. Has anyone been successful at automating the upgrade process? We would like to avoid the need to touch each workstation.

I have been using SCCM from Microsoft for 15 years to upgrade Visual, but you could use login scripts or Group Policy to do the same thing. The last 3 years I used Advanced Installer (https://advancedinstaller.com) to create a custom package. The best thing about Advanced Installer is that you just point to the existing install of anything on your PC and tell it that is what you want removed before you install Visual 9 and it just adds the uninstall function to the installer like magic. That paid for it right there. It starts at $399, but I got the $3K version so I could repackage software.

Here is some samples from an old 7.0 SP3 upgrade for doing things with batch files:

CD to the folder with the Runtime MSI and just use the /x to uninstall

Then Install the new version:

After your Visual is installed, you can use Robocopy to update your install with new patches or reports:
