Total_Open_Orders on Customer_Entity table

Hello All -

We have been using Visual since 2006 and are currently on version 8. There is a very large negative value for one of our customers in the Total_Open_Orders field on the Customer_Entity table and I believe we have exceeded the allowable limit. Is there any impact if we alter this number to zero? How is the field being used?
