Password Resets by User

Does anyone else have run into issues when a user who is marked as having System Administrator rights gets an error that they are not authorized to change another user's password in Visual MFG? To me it seems this should be an ability by any system administrator and should not require logging in as SYSADM.

I regularly have to reset user's passwords, and I am able to do that with my regular login that has System Administrator Privileges. I do not have to use SYSADM. I am not sure what version you are using - I am 7.1.2. It may be that security changed in later versions.

Thanks for your response. We are on 9.0.4. I do not recall having this issue when we were on 7.1.2 last year.

I'm using 9.0.3 and have no issues with resetting passwords with my non-SYSADM account.

I have a 9.0.4 system, and I went into the [Users] window and was able to update multiple users at the same time with a non-SYSADM account (with privileges of course).

I also tested while a user with privilege was signed on and was able to change their password.

What error are you getting?

I'm using 9.0.4 and have no issues with resetting passwords with my account that has System Administrator Privileges.

Maybe try changing from System Administrator Privileges to standard and save then back to System Administrator Privileges.

Have you migrated the database to a new server by any chance?

Yes Alan, we did when we migrated to 9.0. This functionality probably hasn't worked since we migrated. Do you have a suggested resolution?

Thought so, you will need to go into the SQL design studio on your server and tick the "sysadmin" box for user "SYSADM" in the security logins section, server roles

Thank you Alan. SYSADM already had this server role checked but I gave the same role to the Visual user who was trying to reset passwords and now they can. Thanks again!
