Single sign-on

Hi,

I just found today the features single sign-on. Is anyone us it? I'm in aerospace domain and we need to change pass often, so this could be very helpful for us.

All I know, is if you turn it on, and don't have it set up already, you will lock everyone out of Visual. Of course you won't know that until 5am when people start getting to work the next day and no one can get into Visual. And, if you don't have a SYSADM user in your domain, you can't even get in and fix it. You have to dig around in the database to find the bit that turns it back off. I decided I would stay away from it after that.

Hi Nancy -

We've been using SSO and love it (Visual 9 on Oracle 12c). I think the reason it works so well is because the network User Name and the Visual User ID are the SAME (at least that's what I realized after sharing my experience with others like yourself)

If yours falls into that category, it's really easy to do:

STEP-1:

in Visual, use: Security > Single Sign on Maintenance

here you should Activate All Users (this in conjunction with STEP-2 is where you get the "all or none" concept)

STEP-2:

in your VISUAL.ini you'll want to include:

[Visual Mfg]

SingleSignOn=Y

note1: we also include database here (specify database name but leave UserID and Password blank)

note2: I'm told you can do this in Preference Maintenance, but the INI works well for us

TO TOGGLE ON/OFF:

for SSO "ON" --- [Activate All Users] and SingleSignOn=Y

for SSO "OFF --- [Clear All Users] and SingleSignOn=N

TO USE SYSADM when SSO "ON", just add -SYSADM switch to your shortcut Target:

example: C:InforVISUALVISUAL MFGVM.EXE" -SYSADM

note: we are not permitted to save passwords in the shortcuts, but this works too:

example: C:InforVISUALVISUAL MFGVM.EXE" -SYSADM -u SYSADM -d myDatabase -p myPassword

Hey, it's the other Visual user on Oracle...

Thanks for the info. What version of 9 are you one, btw? I am converting now from 7.1.2 to 9.0.5 on 11g. Won't go to 12c unless I absolutely have to.

Our Production is 903 and I'm preparing to go to 905 (905 looks good in non-production, many fixes we needed)
