Table Names

I'm reading the Infor LN documentation

/progguide/3gl_features/tables, 10.7.0

TABLE <table name> | table name must start with a 't'.

I know I have been told this before, but just curious what does the 't' mean? Is an original name?

The table names go back BAAN:

The first two letters are the "package"

ps - process, tc - common, td - distribution, tf - finance, tg - DEM/EPM, ti - manufacturing, tp - project, tr - transportation, ts - service

t stands for triton as this was the first product version with verison 4 it was renamed to Baan 4.0

Here it is from the docs too.

Reading the documentation my brain is struggling with session names as they appear to start with t as well.

It appears the trick is to ignore the 't' and look for the company number to help discriminate?

Another way to look at this (at least how I've always looked at it), is that the "t" in the TABLE declaration is essentially a handle for the table buffer object. That way, the table level operations are using the table handler, and the "variable" table.field is a variable within the table object, which is referenced without the leading "t". The session ids will start with a package code, as all components in the system (tables, sessions, reports, domains, labels, etc) belong in to a package (and also are versioned in a package-VRC). btw, LN has packages that do not start with the "t*" packages. Hope this helps!
