Visual 9 / Microsoft Access

We currently are running Visual 7 with multiple reporting and updating using Microsoft Access. We will be upgrading to Visual 9 this summer and wondering if our Access programs will still work?

I just went through this last year upgrading from Visual 654 to 9. There were loads of changes that needed to be made with MS Access programs. I can't tell you when Visual went to multi-site. But that was the biggest problem for me.

Agreed. Multi-site is amazing (especially if you have multiple sites), but will require a complete rewrite of probably all read/writes to the database as there are major schema changes.

Side note, there are a lot of features of Visual 9X that 654 did not have, it may be worth taking a look at what you are achieving with the Access tools and if they are truly necessary with the upgrade, or if they are an artifact of 'how we do things' that could be better served with Visual proper.

We are in process of phasing out some Excel tools using Power Query, for the express purpose that the tools locked the tables with such frequency that it messed up our data. Made costing, labor tickets, inventory, customer information, contacts, history notes, etc, all go wonky, problems of existing items not being there and vise versa. When we worked with Infor, they found that the root cause of the majority of our non-reproducible issues could be explained from outside table locks. Since we have brought the use way down, we have seen a dramatic decrease in those random issues.
