PPAP Designation?

We have many customers that require a PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) for their parts that we supply them. Those parts have restrictions on what we can and cannot do based on our original process approved.

We would like to designate that a Part has passed through the PPAP and is a special case.

Has anyone else ran into this issue of identifying PPAP Parts?

It is my understanding that Visual Quality contains many features that will track the completion of PPAP and even the PPAP information.

However, we do not use Visual Quality.... Instead, at the time of the PPAP request from the customer, we create a work order for the PPAP parts and indicate that it is for PPAP parts using a user defined field in the work order. Then have an "on load" macro for the material planning window that includes a sql query for work orders for that part id with the intent to locate at least 1 order designated as PPAP. Your macro could either indicate that a part has or has not passed through the PPAP process. You could also create a similar macro for customer order entry if your work orders are linked.

We have IQM and are phasing out Visual Quality, and there is indeed a PPAP module that nicely tracks PPAP's within itself, and when a Request from a Customer is made to pull PPAP information, we have that at the drop of a hat.

What we're running into is that there's no feedback from IQM/VQ to anywhere in Visual to dictate that the part has passed a valid PPAP. Without that link, we're having issues understanding when a Part has passed, and how to communicate it out. How to tell the Production Floor that no modifications can be made to the Routing and BOM's.

There's no Checkbox in Part Maintenance, no method to lock down their Engineering Masters and Work Orders. ECN's can be brought up on them, and there's no functionality built in to protect these process and BOM locked parts.

A Macro on the Customer Order, Part Maintenance, Work Order, WorkOrder Operation, WorkOrder Requirement, ECN Line, all to pull in a simple 'PPAP Passed?' seems like a lot of effort. Even if we add a Custom User Defined to Part Maintenance, all the Macro's above would still be needed.

We'd rather have a simpler solution, but we're reaching out first to see if anyone else has ran into the issue and how they resolved, hopefully without building a PPAP control module from Macros.

We add a new part number in the system with the prefix PPAP-partnumber. This allows production part numbers customer/work/purchase orders to be different revisions and approvals. Once the PPAP partnumber gets approved, the production part number is dealth with. Keeping production separate from PPAP is key. Also, use co-products to receive extra parts from PPAP workorders into production inventory.
