Infor Rich Client (IRC) will no longer be delivered for use April 2023 update

Hello Everyone!
By now hopefully everyone has seen the notice issued March 2021 (effective April 2023) that the Infor Landmark Technology Runtime platform’s Infor Rich Client (IRC) component will no longer be delivered for use. See https://support.infor.com/espublic/EN/AnswerLinkDotNet/sohoxi/Announcements/XiShowAnnouncements.aspx?id=4147
This announcement followed on an earlier June 2020 announcement (effective Jan 31 2021) that dropped support for usage of HRT or FSM application transactional screens in Rich Client.
Infor would like to know from your perspectives what potential loss of functionality or gaps have you concerned? We have a window of opportunity yet to affect development roadmaps based on your feedback or concerns.
Infor isn't aware of any remaining gaps but is working to eliminate various usability and efficiency issues, especially in Security's Configuration Console.
Let's get this thread cooking!
Thanks!

I believe there is still a gap with product line configs. Adding a data area subjects still had to be done in Rich Client as far as I can tell. The "Configure Product Line" item on the config console create page just seems to open a blank action form that returns an invalid action error when submitting. However, once added via rich client, the config entity appears in config console.
I'm also curious about Script Engines / Scripts in the Data Area config? Are those no longer supported in multi-tenant?

From a security perspective, in Rich Client you have the option to select from available actions for a specific business class when securing the business class. There is no such functionality within Config Console, you have to know what the actions are. Also I don't believe I see a conditional wizard builder. That was a nice function to have.

Andy, for Configure Product Line my guess is you already have a UserProd record. (Not obvious). So, in web config console search for the UserProd Type. You'll see a record and it's LPL that you can view/edit like anything else.
You are correct, Script Engines / Scripts is not enabled in MT. We do not yet have the ability to safely fence or sandbox them in a shared space.

I think what I'll do is post updates to our plans here in Web Security Administration to improve this and move it in the right direction. This was the area I really meant when i said "eliminate various usability and efficiency issues, especially in Security's Configuration Console."

Thanks Doc.

There are "wizards" in the Rich Client version that make some simple changes simpler (i.e. a color picker for label text, a checkbox to make a field read-only). As clients get more comfortable with LPL, those become less important, but it would be nice if we could toggle between the "wizard" and LPL

There are a few functionalities in Rich Client that we are concerned about losing from an HR perspective. 1. In RC you had the ability to un/check to indicate if you wanted all changes to require an action reason and a comment, this would pop up a box with each change you made and you were able to turn this functionality on and off. RC-Start-Settings-Landmark Tab-Under General, Show Action Reason/Action Comment Dialog on Actions. We don’t have reason codes built for all business classes so would sometimes turn this off or have it on for particular users or sets of actions we would do. We have not found the setting to do this in MT Cloud. 2. In RC you can see multiple audit logs on one screen, we have a view that shows the Resources at the top and the Work Assignment at the bottom and are able to open the View full audit log on both at the same time. This is often done before approving new actions and is simpler than clicking between multiple tabs in a browser or back and forth between the Resource and Work Assignment Audit Log. 3. We are unable to update comments on actions once they are submitted but before they are approved. We would like to add comments as needed and can do this in RC. 4. In RC it’s called the Related Audit Log, but for some/most users this option seems to disappear but if you go to your settings and make a change, I usually just change my Use Compact Form Layout toggle to the opposite of what it is, then the “Drill Around” related audit log option comes back. This doesn’t disappear in RC so isn’t necessary. 5. The way the Set as of Date functions also creates extra work. I have the work assignment search open, have filtered data to a particular ee/group, then want to look it as of a particular date, click the set as of date and it loses all my filters and goes back to the default list. RC applies to as of date to everything you have open, which can be time consuming if you have a few things open but that isn’t an issue in a browser since anything else I have open is in a different tab.

#1 - This RC feature was pre-configurations and was a huge all or nothing thing for the user and the actions they perform. With the advent of Configurations you can add the action reason and action comment per action (and even add them to the form for an up-front visual cue) that you want to require these on. We had thought this was more surgical and avoids the issue in RC where you have to be turning it off/on depending on what you are doing (which I'm sure has issues and you forget somethings). Would be curious on your feedback on this. Is this 5-10 actions you want this on or 50?
#2 - this is a consequence of single view web vs. multi-document RC. There are some new conventions coming called workspaces in Ming.e Portal that allows for more of this (and even allows split across monitors which is way nice)
#3 - can you share more on this use-case and steps to get from A to B to C?
#4 - something flaky like this in the web just seems like a bug to write up with good steps and we'll fix it for ya. Totally weird that a User Settings change matters at all.
#5 - will look into the setting of as of date wiping our your list filters. i'm sure we could reapply them. Is there a second issue here though? Are you saying that also having multiple browser tabs open and changing as of date on one of them doesn't change as of data in all of them? Kinda lost me in the last sentence, sorry!

I've been able to adjust to HTML with config console with few issues, but security configuration on the web is unusable beyond adding security classes to roles.
Whenever I need to do any real security work such as creating security classes, editing security classes, or anything other than add to a role, I have to go back to Rich Client. Most recently, I had to go to Rich Client to verify what actions were allowed in a security class, past/present/future, adjust securable objects and add a business class to a security class.
It sounds like this is being worked on, but Rich Client needs to remain available until security configuration on the web is actually usable!

@awells Would you mind a 1-1 with me so we can throw our next round of designs and approaches at you on this topic? Hoping for enough, not enough, what about... validation or feedback. If so we can figure out if this community allows for DM of dets, omg.

Happy to. Despite the various challenges, I actually like the web interface better than Rich Client and am willing to make time to help make it better!
Next week is a little crazy for me, but I can make time during the following windows (PST, I am in CA). Feel free to send a meeting request directly to awells@communitymedical.org
Mon - 3pm-4pm

Can DB Session Debug be enabled in the WebApp, or can that only be done in Rich Client?
0 -
Thanks, I think I found the KB...
KB19326520 -
Yes, it can be

Do you know if there's a query string param to log LPL trace / code coverage?
There is an option in Rich Client, but KB1932652 only covers the params for enabling db debug and setting the trace level.
&csk.dbsessiondebug=true
&csk.dbsessiondebuglevel=basic
Already tried verbose and there's no code coverage in the output.

nm, think I figured it out, looks like csk.lpltrace=true does the trick

&csk.lpltrace=true

soon we plan to add these as easier to use links via ctrl+shift+click UI from any screen

Just a follow-up - this is coming in February's update:
Triage section in ctrl+shift+click UI
Expanded:
Ui now also tells you it's in a "debug mode"

That looks truly awesome, Dr. Awesome! :-)

Will be working towards these over time, as needed.

Note: Staring with the January update these messages will appear every time Rich Client is launched:
Until April's update when you cannot launch Rich Client.

In RC, we had the ability to set Settings to show deleted records (very helpful in troubleshooting when users are having issues and its due to a deleted record). Will this capability be in Web?
0 -
I agree. It can be very helpful, and I would hate to see this go away.
0 -
Yes, we did it! While this "feature" was originally intended to be an internal only developer feature for Infor it accidentally got out
. Realizing it's value and need we've made it an official feature in the web UI.
For the Role(s) that you want to have that capability you must check "Show Deleted and Future Records".
If you cannot check these you have not yet enabled the Configurable Features feature. This is done via Configuration Parameter (or view the online doco). You will want to reivew your roles then to make sure you are giving your roles / users the features they need, and hiding what they don't.

Well feel free to let other features out accidently, I'm sure many of us won't mind
Thank you for the quick response!
